The 15 Romanian companies which constitute the BET index

The BET is a stock index that is comprised of the top 15 Romanian companies in the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) excepting the Financial Investment Companies (SIFs). The bet was BVB’s first market index and was launched in 1997. Since then it has become the reference index for the local market. In this article we’ll take a look at the BET index 15 constituents.

Banca Transilvania
Banca Transilvania S.A. was founded in 1993 in Cluj-Napoca by a local business people group.
It is the first bank in Romania which was listed on Bucharest Stock Exchange in 1997.
BT is Romania's second biggest lender in term of assets. The bank’s shareholders are the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and IFC – the investment arm of the World Bank. 

BRD - Groupe Societe Generale SA
BRD - Groupe Societe Generale SA was founded in 1923 in Bucharest. The majority of share are owned by French Société Générale financial group. It was rebranded after the Société Générale acquired Banca Română pentru Dezvoltare (English: Romanian Development Bank) from the Romanian Government in 1999. The bank is one of the major financiers for SMEs, as well as one of the most important players on the Romanian corporate banking market. 

Bursa de Valori Bucuresti SA
Bursa de Valori Bucuresti SA is  the parent company of the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB).
BVB was founded in 1882 but its history traces back to 1839, when commodities-trade exchanges were established in the Romanian capital. Reestablished in 1995 as a public interest institution after almost 50 years of suspension following the establishment of the communist regime, BVB has developed continuously and nowadays it is the main stock exchange in Romania. In 2010, the Bucharest Stock Exchange was listed on its own Main Market.

CONPET SA
CONPET SA is the operator of the National Transport System of crude oil via pipelines. The company was founded in 1991 and provides specialised petroleum transport services through pipelines and by rail, securing the supply of the refineries with domestic and imported crude oil and derivatives. CONPET operates a 3800 km pipeline network covering 24 Romanian counties. Since 2013, the shares issued by CONPET S.A. are being traded on the regulated market administered by Bucharest Stock Exchange.

Digi Communications N.V 
Digi Communications N.V is the parent company of RCS & RDS-one of the biggest telecommunication operators in Central and Eastern Europe and the largest cable and satellite television company in Romania. The cable TV business was founded in 1992 by a group of Romanian individuals. 

Fondul Proprietatea
Fondul Proprietatea, a joint stock company operating as an Alternative Investment Fund, was established by the Romanian state in 2005 to assure the financial resources necessary to compensate the persons abusively expropriated by the communist regime. The Fund is trading on the Bucharest Stock Exchange since January 2011 and on the London Stock Exchange since April 2015.  

MedLife SA 
MedLife SA is the largest private medical operator in Romania that has been offering services since 1996. The company operates the widest network of clinics, one of the large networks of medical laboratories, general and specialised hospitals and it has the largest client database for Healthcare Prevention Packages in the country.

Romanian companies listed on BVB

OMV Petrom SA
OMV Petrom SA is the largest oil and gas group in Southeastern Europe. The company was founded in 1991and is active on every aspect of the energy value chain: from wells, producing oil and gas, to refining and fuels distribution, gas supply and power generation & supply. The group is the largest taxpayer and the largest private investor in Romania. It paid about 25.5 bn euro to the state budget in taxes and dividends between 2005-2017 

Purcari Wineries Public Company Limited
Purcari Wineries Public Company Limited is the largest wine exporter from Moldova, delivering to over 30 markets in Europe (Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine, Norway, UK, etc.), in Asia (China, Japan, South Korea) and in America (Canada and USA). 
As of February 2018, Purcari has been listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange, the first IPO of a company with roots in Moldova. 

S.N. NUCLEARELECTRICA S.A
S.N. NUCLEARELECTRICA S.A. is the state-owned nuclear power producer. The state owns 81,2700% of Nuclearelectrica's shares, Fondul Proprietatea - 9,7270% and other shareholders - 9.0030%. The main activity fields of SNN SA are centered on the generation of electrical and thermal power, and manufacturing of nuclear fuel. The company was founded in 1998. 

S.N.G.N. Romgaz S.A
S.N.G.N. Romgaz S.A. is Romania’s largest natural gas producer and supplier.
It is a joint stock company whose majority shareholder is the Romanian State owning a 70% stake. The company is listed on Bucharest Stock Exchange and GDRs are transacted on London Stock Exchange. The company has a vast experience in the field of gas exploration and production and a history that began in 1909 with the discovery of the first commercial gas reservoir in the Transylvanian Basin by drilling well Sarmasel.

S.N.T.G.N. Transgaz S.A
S.N.T.G.N. Transgaz S.A. is the Romanian state-controlled gas transporter.The company was founded in 2000 in Medias. Since 2008, Transgaz is an active presence on the Romanian capital market, being listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange. The ownership structure is as follows: 58.5097% of the shares are held by the Romanian State represented by the Government through the General Secretariat of the Government and 41.4903% free-float.  

Societatea Energetica Electrica S.A
Societatea Energetica Electrica S.A. is  the biggest electricity distributor and supplier in Romania was founded in 1998. In 2004, Electrica became a company with private majority capital, listed on the Bucharest and London stock exchanges. Electrica is the only listed Romanian company in the field of electricity distribution and supply in Romania. 

Sphera Franchise Group
Sphera Franchise Group is a holding company which builds a portfolio of well recognised, power brands, operated from a franchise perspective such as KFC, Pizza Hut, Pizza Hut Delivery and Taco Bell in Romania, KFC  in the Republic of Moldova and KFC in the north-east area of Italy.  
In November 2017, the company listed a 25% stake on the Romanian capital market.
