Angeliki Frangou Chairman and CEO of Navios Maritime Holdings

Angeliki Frangou is a Greek shipowner. She is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Navios Maritime Holdings (NYSE:NM) , of Navios Maritime Partners(NYSE:NMM) , of Navios Maritime Acquisition Corporation (NYSE:NNA) , of Navios Maritime Midstream Partners (NYSE:NAP) and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Navios South American Logistics Inc.

Previously, Ms. Frangou served as Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President of International Shipping Enterprises Inc., which acquired Navios Holdings. From 1990 until August 2005, Ms. Frangou was the Chief Executive Officer of Maritime Enterprises Management S.A. and its predecessor company, which specialized in the management of dry cargo vessels. She has also worked on Wall Street as an analyst on the trading floor of Republic National Bank.

Ms.Frangou was born in Kardamyla on the island of Chios, Greece. The village of Kardamyla has a long maritime history and is the homeland of many Greek shipowners.  Ms Frangou's father, Captain Nikolas Frangos, started from there in 1950 as ship captain. At a  CNN tribute to her titled “Leading Women”,  Ms Frangou told CNN's Becky Anderson that she feels that shipping runs in the family’s DNA. In 1989, she left her job at Wall Street and decided to deal with shipping.

In 2004, she raised a capital of worth $200 million to acquire Navios and in a year, she managed to lead the company to the stock market of New York . Being a woman in a male dominated industry does not seem to pose an issue for her. Asked about the role of women in top posts in shipping, MS Frangou told TradeWinds shipping newspaper : "I don't believe in gender, race, religion. I think it's what you want to make it. If you ever thought that you work in a company for any other reason than your ability, you should leave!"

As of May 19, 2017,  Navios Holdings controls a fleet of 66 operating vessels totaling 6.7 million dwt, of which 40 are owned and 26 are chartered-in under long-term charters. The current average age of operating fleet is 8.1 years.   Navios Holdings posted $95.3 million revenue for Q1 2017.

Ms. Frangou is the Chairman of IRF European Finance Investments Ltd., listed on the SFM of the London Stock Exchange, Member of the Board of the United Kingdom Mutual Steam Ship Assurance Association (Bermuda) Limited, Vice Chairman of China Classification Society Mediterranean Committee, a member of the International General Committee and of the Hellenic and Black Sea Committee of Bureau Veritas, as well as a member of Greek Committee of Nippon Kaiji Kyokai. Since February 2015, Ms. Frangou has been a Member of the Board of the Union of Greek Shipowners. 

Ms. Frangou holds a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Fairleigh Dickinson University (summa cum laude), a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Columbia University and a Master's Degree in Business Administration in Finance and International Business from New York University.

In 2014 she was listed 11th in the Lloyd's List Top 100 Most Influential People in Shipping list.
