5th Eastern Economic Forum, 04-06/09/2019, Vladivostok, Russia
The 5th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) will take place on 4–6 September in Russia's Far Eastern port city of Vladivostok on the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) campus.
EFF was established by decree of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin in 2015 and is held each year in Vladivostok for the purpose of encouraging foreign investment in the Russian Far East.
Events at the Forum traditionally take place in the form of panel sessions, round tables, televised debates, business breakfasts, and business dialogues devoted to Russia’s relationships with various countries.
The Forum business programme includes a number of business dialogues with leading partner countries in the Asia-Pacific region, and with ASEAN, a regional intergovernmental organisation comprising ten countries in Southeast Asia, which promotes intergovernmental cooperation and facilitates economic, political, security, military, educational, and socio-cultural integration among its members and other countries in Asia.
The business programme of the 5th EEF consists of four themed blocks:
- ‘New Solutions for Accelerating Economic Growth’
A discussion of the mechanisms that should ensure increased growth rates in the Far East economy in the period until 2025 as well as improvements in the quality of life of local residents.
- ‘Improving the Business Environment’
Discussions on ways to support investors, including the availability of financial services, the development of transport infrastructure, the transition to project financing in construction, and the protection of investors’ rights.
- ‘The Far East &Asia Pacific: Fostering Collaboration’
Focus on the Far East’s integration into the economies of APR countries, the development of the Northern Sea Route, the environment, international scientific and technical cooperation, and customs administration.
- ‘New Solutions for Improving Quality of Life’
Discussions on healthcare, education, housing and utilities, the urban environment as well as mechanisms to improve the labour market in the Far East.
The 5th EEF will be attended by India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, among other high-ranking guests.
Last year, a record-high number of agreements had been signed at the fourth edition of the EEF.
A total of 175 agreements worth 2.9 trillion rubles were signed, while Russian President Vladimir Putin held meetings with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Chinese leader Xi Jinping and Mongolian President Khaltmaa Battulga at the forum and on its sidelines.
The EEF is organised by the Roscongress Foundation, a socially oriented non-financial development institution and a major organiser of international conventions, exhibitions, public events and forums such as St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
